inXile and Techland reveal character class for the long awaited spiritual sucsesor to Planescape: Torment.

Torment: Tides of Numenera seems to be coming along quite nicely. Game publisher and have been busy setting up and explaining the character classes necessary for different approaches to gameplay. While a trinity of player classes appears to be a very conservative approach, there seems to be a lot more nuance in design to it when narrative and the overall mechanics of problem solving in Tides of Numenera are taken into account.

So far we know that the Jack class offers a wide array of possibilities for stealth or non-combat play-styles and that the Nano class represents a more magic oriented approach. This week we are being introduced to the Glaive. Where tongue-trickery and spell-casting fail, the Glaive jumps in to deliver some much needed muscle.

The way things look at this point is that the Glaive can be levelled into a tank role, with heavy armour and taunts at his disposal, or alternatively geared for DPS through speed and the ability to attack twice per round. Players will also be given the option of attempting to strike a balance between these two approaches, with the aim of creating a well-rounded, all-purpose warrior powerhouse.

Although initially planned as a PC exclusive, owners of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles can now also look forward to sinking their teeth into Tides of Numenera on their platform of choice. As stated in an August announcement, will launch simultaneously on all platforms in early 2017.
