Outlast developer Red Barrells have shared a lot of new details about their upcoming title The Outlast Trials, which is coming in 2022. The devs say this game will be more like a TV series, while the past titles were more film-like.

The Outlast Trials is the upcoming co-op horror game by Red Barrels, the studio that brought us two critically acclaimed Outlast games. The new project is the biggest yet from the Canadian studio, who have expanded since releasing the second game - they are a little more than 40 people now.

In their latest interview for PlayStation Blog , Philippe Morin, Co-Founder of Red Barrels, revealed some interesting new details about The Outlast Trials. Interestingly, Morin compares the game to a TV series, saying that the previous two titles were more film-like.

"This time, you can choose to survive with friends. If the previous games could be compared to movies, The Outlast Trials is more like a TV Series. Your journey to freedom will be a long one," he explains.

He added that players can expect pretty much the same visual design as the previous Outlast games - "twisted realism, decadence, and in-your-face gore."

Speaking about the creatures and enemy types in the game, Morin promises more variety than ever before with violent, weird and dangerous characters.

"Iconic nemeses are part of the Outlast DNA, and this time we have more variety than ever. Players will get to know many weird, dangerous, and violent characters. Although they’re also victims of Murkoff, most of them are definitely more than happy to prevent you from completing the program."

The Outlast Trials has been delayed to 2022 recently. The game has been only confirmed for PC but it looks like it will be coming to consoles too, at least PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
