Outlast has a bit of a reputation for being the scariest thing since the Spanish Inquisition, and while that reputation may have been build with a heavy reliance on jump-scares there is more than enough interesting stuff going on in the 5-ish hour game to keep the less seasoned horror fan entertained.

Anyone who never ventured a look due to the game's price tag is now left without an excuse, as the game is free to download and keep from Humble Bundle during the next two days. All you need is a Humble account linked to Steam for ease of access.
The free game comes bundled with the Whistleblower DLC, which adds a few more hours of gameplay and fills in some of the base game's unresolved plot points. The prequel content, same as the base game, features no combat, but has the player running away from the various spooky/jumpy threats in the asylum.

Outlast 2 released earlier this year and was generally received as a solid horror title. That game's nappy advertisement disguised as a is still good for a few laughs if you missed it back in the day.
