Naughty Dog community manager Arne Meyer has responded to rumours about The Last of Us 2 release date. Meyer said that he appreciates the enthusiasm from the fans but at the moment, the studio can't confirm if the game will release in 2019.
Earlier this week, website The Onion published a post in which they mentioned PlayStation Store listing that apparently revealed The Last of Us Part II release date. According to the post, The Last of Us Part II is coming in 2019, confirming another rumour that earlier this year revealed a more specific date - October 2019.
The Onion post was shared by Naughty Dog Director of Communications Arne Meyer on Twitter. He didn't comment on the rumour in his post though, but one Twitter user pointed out that it's been almost a year since Naughty Dog talked about The Last of Us Part II, which made Meyer respond to his statement.
He said that it's still not the time to talk about the game and that more details will be shared when the studio is ready. "Can't say much, but we'll put new things out when it and we are ready. Appreciate you and all of our fans' patience!" Meyer wrote in his response.
Again, nothing new, not even a slight tease for an upcoming trailer or gameplay. Naughty Dog and Sony officially announced The Last of Us Part II on PlayStation experience event in 2016 and released the first gameplay footage at last year's E3 expo but since then, went totally silent.
Of course, it would be realistic to expect another showcase on E3 2019 if Sony did not officially announce they will not be at the world's biggest gaming expo for the first time in their history.
However, Sony are probably planning their own show sometime in 2019, if not just before or after the E3. PlayStation 5 leaks are pouring in as we get closer to rumoured 2020 release date and the announcement of the new console could almost certainly, be the place for new details about the upcoming exclusives, including The Last of us Part II.
