According to Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie in The Last of Us, the sequel for Naughty Dog's adventure is set to release sometime in February 2020. This aligns with earlier reports that also suggested early 2020 as the release date.
The Last of Us Part 2 was subject of many leaks and rumours over the last few months. First, some reports claimed that Naughty Dog's action adventure is set to release sometime in 2019 but shorty after that, other reports suggested that early 2020 is the most likely release date for The Last of Us 2, as Sony already have one huge exclusive on PlayStation 4 in 2019 - Death Stranding.
The latest info about The Last of Us 2 release date comes from Ashley Johnson, an actress who plays Ellie in The Last of Us and will also return in the sequel. In an interview for Critical Role, Johnson talked about her career, acting and most importantly The Last of Us 2.
When asked when is the game scheduled to release, Johnson attempts to reply with February but she's quickly interrupted by the interviewer. She manages to mouth the "Feb" which is more than enough for us to be honest. If only the interviewer wasn't so excited to hear the answer, but we understand.
February 2019 release date aligns almost perfectly with earlier inside info from Kotaku's Jason Schreier who tweeted that The Last of Us 2 is being pushed to early 2020 release, possibly February.
"Looks like Death Stranding is about to get announced for a November release. The Last of Us 2 was also planned for fall 2019 but I actually just heard it got bumped to early 2020, possibly February? Either way, wild final year for PS4," Jason tweeted.
Sony and Naughty Dog are yet to officially reveal the release date for The Last of Us 2. Some players expected that more details about the game would be shared on one of the PlayStation State of Play episodes but unfortunately, that didn't happen.
Of course, it's possible that in the next State of Play episode we'll get the official release date.
