Even ZeniMax Online Studios game director Matt Firor doesn't know what the world will look like when The Elder Scrolls VI comes out. The game probably won't release before new console hardware is out.
We know that Bethesda are currently busy with Starfield, their next-gen RPG which should be coming in a couple of years. The company also announced Elder Scrolls VI which will be their next project after Starfield, but the focus right now is only on Starfield as the developer pointed out many times.
It's safe to say that Elder Scrolls VI probably won't release anytime soon but judging by the latest comments from ZeniMax Online Studios game director Matt Firor and Bethesda marketing boss Pete Hine , the wait could be longer than you may expect.
According to Firor, the game could even release on the next-generation of consoles. "I don't even know what the world is going to be like when it comes out," he said. "There will be a different console generation by then, I'm sure."
He then clarified that this was always the case and should not come as a surprise to players. The Elder Scrolls VI is planned to release years after Starfield, which is currently in development.
"The easiest thing is to look at how it was announced; it was Starfield and then [Elder Scrolls VI]," Firor said. "You can go back and count the years between Bethesda Game Studios releases, and you'll get the idea that [The Elder Scrolls VI is] not coming anytime soon."
So there you have it folks, The Elder Scrolls VI probably won't arrive before PlayStation 6 and the next Xbox console. The good news is that Starfield should release in the upcoming years. Our guess would be 2022, meaning that Bethesda could then spend the next five years on The Elder Scrolls VI, which could release in 2027, a year when new console hardware may arrive.
