OtherSide Entertainment, the developers of System Shock 3 have officially confirmed that Chinese gaming giant Tencent will be taking the System Shock franchise forward.
Rumours about Tencent's System Shock 3 acquisition have been floating around earlier this week and it turns out that the world's largest video game company will indeed be taking the System Shock franchise forward from now on.
Tencent have acquired the control over System Shock 3 troubled development but the ownership of the System Shock IP will remain in the hands of the original creators - Nightdive Studios.
"We are happy to announce that Tencent will be taking the System Shock franchise forward," System Shock 3 developer OtherSide Entertainment wrote in the official statement over at Twitter. "As a smaller Indie studio, it had been challenging for us to carry the project on our own. We believe Tencent's deep capabilities and expertise as a leading game company will bring the franchise to new heights."
System Shock 3 was originally announced way back in December 2015 but sadly, the development hit many obstacles, including the massive financial problems that the game's publisher Starbreeze have been struck with.
Luckily, OtherSide Entertainment promised to continue the development of the game, which has been described as critically behind the schedule, earlier this year. Hopefully, with Tencent, the game will be in good hands so we can finally get the third instalment in one of the most iconic franchises of all time.
