T1 faced fan backlash over decision making recently, which was followed by backlash over inaction when it comes to harassment. Now they wrote an official apology but it's not exactly the work of Shakespeare.
League of Legends' most accomplished team, T1, is currently managing to alienate both their eastern and western fans. First, they enraged the eastern fans when it was leaked that Nick "LS" De Cesare and Choi "Polt" Seong-hun would be joining the organisation.
Most of the eastern fans perceived LS as racist due to defending a member of BBQ Olivers, Malice, who had a case of toxicity but the protests soon turned into targeted harassment and homophobic slurs. LS subsequently took a break from social networks but that apparently wasn't enough as even his grandmother became a target of harassment.
The whole issue spilt into T1's Discord where the moderators attempted to remove the toxic fans' comments and eventually ban them but the higher-ups decided it would be best to let the fans vent until the server was shut down.
This was the second point where the western fans started taking issue with T1's management of the situation, the first one being that they didn't officially back up their initial decision to hire LS and let him take the brunt of the fans' aggression.
On November 16, 2020, the organisation posted a statement over the situation where they noted their Discord would be reinstated in the future but the aforementioned moderators apparently left the channel and the remaining staff would be "re-educated".
It remains to be seen whether toxicity and targeted harassment on their channel will bring any consequences in the future but right now one thing is clear - besides the enraged eastern fans, the western ones are steadily dropping their support of T1.
