Epic Games have revealed new patch notes that state Nintendo Switch players will no longer be able to crossplay with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This is not much of an alarm and Switch users' experience should improve after the update.

Fortnite's will include new additions as Epic Games show no signs of fatigue when it comes to new content for their golden goose. They did, however, drop a feature that allowed Nintendo Switch players to matchmake with those on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Well, sort of.

This restriction will only apply in solo queue where Nintendo Switch players will be pooled with those on iOS and Android, which will apparently deliver a better experience for all players involved. The major driver here is Switch's 30 FPS cap that is a major hurdle when compared to the glorious 60 FPS on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Epic's decision to cut the crossplay choice is kind of odd though as a simply opting in or out of crossplay with certain platforms would be much more convenient for the players. It is currently unknown whether Epic didn't have time to implement the feature or simply decided to cut costs and force Switch players into the pool with iOS and Android.

Those who want to play with their friends on other platforms can still do so though. If a player wants to play with their friend on PC, PS4 on Xbox One, they can still party up and drop together. In other words, if a player is a Switch user, their experience with friends shouldn't be hampered at all and they will likely see more solo queue victory royales in the future as they will go from having the weakest hardware in the player pool to having the best.

Technically, some mobile devices can offer the same performance in Fortnite, but it is a major advantage that Switch users have proper controllers instead of having to touch the screen to perform actions. Bottom line is that Epic pretty much did a favour to Switch users who were possibly getting stomped in crossplay sessions
