According to the latest rumours, which surfaced over on Twitter, the next Call of Duty game could be developed by the creators of Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty WW2 - Sledgehammer Games.
Activision currently have two new Call of Duty games in development that are yet to be officially announced but since the publisher release one Call of Duty game each year, it's not hard to conclude this is indeed the case.
The two studios that are currently busy with the upcoming Call of Duty titles are Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games. Since Treyarch developed the last one - Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War - they won't be working on a new game for some time.
At the moment it is not clear what Activision's release plan actually is but it's safe to say that either Sledgehammer's or Infinity Ward's game is set to release later this year. And according to reliable Call of Duty content creator and insider, Sledgehammer's project might be the first one to release.
Henderson shared an interesting graph, which shows the development cycle of Call of Duty titles and according to his guess, Sledgehammer started working on their Call of Duty game codenamed "Decade II" in August 2019, before the release of Modern Warfare.
Infinity Ward's game, which is rumoured to be Modern Warfare 2 started development in September 2020, which suggests that it might be too early for the game to release in 2021.
"This is not a leak and is a well-educated guess based on development times. If SH Games are the next developers, I'm confident the title will be decent. However, if it's IW, I'd expect it to be another incomplete title like BOCW," Henderson wrote in a follow-up tweet.
At the moment, it does seem likely that Sledgehammer's title is indeed the one that should be coming in 2021. Whether this game is Advanced Warfare 2 or something else entirely, it remains to be seen.
