Apparently, a marketing manager died getting the leaked content out from Croteam's headquarters, but never mind that - there's a video snippet of Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass in action and it's just what you'd expect. Explosive.
Of course it's a joke, but if there are anyone's shenanigans that we really enjoy, it has to be Devolver Digital's. They've given us quite a few memorable moments these years, both in terms of quality PR (a term which we'd normally call an oxymoron) and gaming releases.
Seeing as how Devolver just ticked the first of these boxes for Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass, we're hoping that the second one ends up true as well, i.e. that Croteam's game comes out swinging like it used to.
And if the brief clip is any indication, it will, as it fits the Serious Sam ethos. You know, the ethos that says blow it up before it reaches you. In case of the screaming kamikaze on the screen - the urgency is doubled.
It's been a while since we've last heard of Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass and Croteam had quite ambitious plans back then. They envisioned players in the thick of some epic action with as many as 100,000 enemies on screen at the time, although that was reserved for the top-of-the-line rigs that could support the added requirements.
Granted, the Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass demo they've been showing behind closed doors at E3 2018 was short of that number, but they've had ample time to tune it up. Slower rigs will not be churning out those numbers though, in case you're worrying whether it will be playable on yours.
From what we're seeing, Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass does seem like it's in the final stages of development. While the video makes it a bit difficult to say with certainty, the weapon animation, the kamikaze explosion and surrounding textures don't seem like placeholders for sure. Then again, we have a feeling we'll know soon enough.
