There aren't many games that let you see so much in 38 seconds, which is the running time of Serious Sam 4's gameplay trailer, but good ol' Sam is one of those games.

Which is not to say there's nothing to see in Serious Sam 4, quite the contrary in fact. It's just that the game's explosive pace makes it feel like we've watched a few minutes worth of action in most other games.

"Humanity is under siege as the full force of Mental’s hordes spread across the world, ravaging what remains of a broken and beaten civilization. The last remaining resistance to the invasion is the Earth Defense Force led by Sam “Serious” Stone and his heavily-armed squad of misfit commandos", the description reads.

In case you didn't catch it, this is the second gameplay trailer for Serious Sam 4 this week, and the first one is quite a bit longer. You can check it out below, and it talks about Sam's backstory.

Former explorer, captain Sam Stone of the Surveyor, ends up as the unlikely defender of our world. In his words, the forces that attacked our planet don't have much regard for what Earthlings are, or were.

We'll let you hear the rest of that speech for yourself, and trust us when we tell you it's worth it. It may be one sentence, but it's a trademark, badass, Serious Sam sentence that best portrays the spirit of the franchise. We'd say it, but y'know...we don't want to swear.

Having always considered Serious Sam 4 as the rightful heir to Duke Nukem, we can't wait to dive into Croteam's hectic shooter when it launches in August 2020. Expect the traditional Serious Sam brutality sprinkled with a bunch of new weapons and enemy types .
