Not long after unveiling the release date for Serious Sam 4, the game's publisher Devolver Digital clarified that Croteam's shooter is launching on Google Stadia first.
Whether or how exactly this was miscommunicated matters little now, as Devolver Digital confirmed that Serious Sam 4 launches for Google Stadia first.
This means that Serious Sam fans on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be getting the game in 2021, once the Stadia deal is done. Devolver Digital didn't say when exactly but the two's next-gen successors will arrive on the market sooner than Sam to current-gen consoles.
As for the game itself, Serious Sam 4 definitely walks in the glorious footsteps of its predecessors, the last of which launched in 2011. We're talking brutal, fast-paced combat that's become synonymous with the franchise.
Croteam were promising hundreds of thousands of enemies on-screen back when they announced the game on the developer conference Reboot 2018. At the time they said Serious Sam 4 will let you see 100,000 enemies if your rig can handle them, but the number has been dropped slightly it seems.
Nevertheless, Serious Sam 4 developer insists there will be no shortage of enemies, as the game brings back some classic ones like the headless screaming Kamikaze, and introduces new ones. In fact, the studio claims that they've really gone all out on the enemies, many of whom will be key for Serious Sam's future instalments.
Serious Sam 4 will introduce some new weapons as well, with one of them said to bring a special "goriness to melee", but as you can see from the video above - some of the franchise's classics are returning as well.
