SCUM is coming to Steam Early Access on 29 August 2019. This information has been confirmed by the publisher Devolver Digital, as well as the developers Croteam and Gamepires. The game looks like probably the weirdest survival title yet.

SCUM is a ridiculously detailed survival game in development by Gamepires, the people behind Gas Guzzlers Extreme and Croteam, the developer behind another well known realistic franchise - Serious Sam.

Well, while Serious Sam dealt with monsters, aliens and whatnot, players will have to deal with zombies and giant robots in SCUM, although, this time realistically, for real. They will have to take care of what their character eats, how they treat their teeth and the trailer above even shows them on a toilet seat.

This will not be just Sims with zombies though, as SCUM will focus on the more visceral parts of gameplay as well. For example, bulkier characters will be good in fistfights but will lose stamina faster than the lean ones, who will not hit as hard.

Players will get dropped on Bagne de Cayenne penal colony, known as Devil's Island in English, along with 63 other people whose goal will be to survive and escape. So far it sounds like battle royale with extra steps but it might prove to be more than that, depending on what twists the developers put into the game.

Considering the depth of character customisation, and how many things players need to keep an eye on in order to survive, it also hints the game will play like Conan Exiles, where players survive for as long as they can, and eventually attempt to escape the treacherous lands.

has listed system requirements for the game, which in all honesty, don't look to high, but it remains to be seen how well the game is optimised. Recommended settings include a GTX 1060, which is quite generous considering most games list GTX 1080 or 1080 Ti in recommended specs.
