Hi-Rez announced a change that will undoubtedly prove controversial in Rogue Company community as it will take away from the characters' individuality and may lead to underused weapons.
Rogues in Rogue Company come with their unique abilities, looks and loadouts, the last of which comprises of perks and weapons. The limited selection of weapons per Rogue became part of their identity over time as players would not only pick them for the abilities they have but the combination of said abilities and the weapons.
The sum of these choices has a unique set of strengths and weaknesses, which could lead to your team's advantage or disadvantage. All of this will change with the introduction of weapon mastery.
Weapon mastery will be a new feature in Rogue Company, allowing players to complete challenges for certain weapons, by playing Rogues that use them by default. Completing the challenges will increase the progress for that weapon and eventually unlock it for all other Rogues who use the same weapon type.
For example, Dallas still won't be able to use Lancer's weapon because he uses DMRs and Assault Rifles while Lancer has SMGs and Shotguns. Chaac, on the other hand, will be able to share weapons with Lancer as they use the same archetypes.
Putting all the weapons in the same pool might eventually lead to just one or two of them being used while the rest fall into oblivion, as is the way with metas all over competitive gaming. It remains to be seen though but this change is bound to have players in both camps - pro and against.
