League of Legends Patch 26.11 completely turns the patch notes spotlight on supports. Riot thinks that supports have been dominated by ranged champions ever since some buffs were implemented this Season 2. Melee and roaming supports have become less viable as a result.
According to Riot, getting quest items rewards players for staying in lane, which inherently favors enchanters and poke supports. Roaming is punished more severely now than it has been in prior seasons. Buff/nerf combinations and quality-of-life changes in Patch 26.11 should even out the playing field.
Major Support Changes Arrive in Patch 26.11
Multiple tank-focused runes and items are getting solid buffs.Aftershock’s base resistances are increased and Guardian’s cooldown decreased to make them more reliable.
Knight’s Vow, Heartsteel, Locket of the Iron Solari, and Zeke’s Convergence are also getting buffs, which will give engage supports stronger options going into teamfights. In other changes, Riot is nerfing several abilities commonly built by ranged supports:
- Dream Maker
- Echoes of Helia
- Moonstone Renewer
- Summon Aery
Perhaps most notably, Imperial Mandate is getting a complete rework. Now it’ll grant bonus Ability Haste on immobilizing abilities and apply a Vulnerable effect that causes affected enemies to take increased damage.
Riot’s also tweaking Voidgrubs to incentivize roaming around objectives better. The goal is to have supports roam off and look to impact the map without bringing back the heavy roaming metas of years past.
Should these buffs and changes hit the mark, Patch 26.11 could lead to vastly more diverse support pick-bans and a healthier engage vs. tank vs. ranged support balance for the rest of Season 2.
