A tweet from a Riot Games employee revealed the upcoming changes to the mid lane position. The nerf will include the gold worth and attack speed of the mid lane Cannon minions.
Riot Games lead gameplay designer, Mark Yetter, also known as Riot Scruffy has revealed the upcoming changes for the mid lane position in League of Legends.
The upcoming changes include:
- Mid lane Cannon minions will have a 30 per cent increased attack speed while attacking enemy towers
- Mid lane Cannon minions are worth 10 less gold for the first 14 minutes of the game
The main goal for these changes is to punish the mid lane champions and players who rely on roaming. The increased attack speed of the Cannon minions could make a difference when it comes to pushing waves while the enemy mid laner is not present in the lane.
This will indirectly nerf roaming assassins like Talon, Zed, LeBlanc, or Katarina - champions that rely on ganking other lanes. Control mages like Victor, Azir, or Syndra could see an increased their overall pick rate. Their ability to push the lanes can´t be matched by any melee assassins and whether the enemy mid laner decides to leave his lane, or stay and farm under the turret, these champions will benefit either way.
Riot´s balance team have previously hinted on some of these changes in the mid-season but they were delayed till the 2021 preseason. These changes would change the spawn rate of Cannon minions from every third to every fourth wave. Also, the movement speed of the mid lane minions would be slightly nerfed so that the waves would meet each other at the same time on all of the three lanes.
These changes weren't mentioned in the tweet and whether Riot decides to implement them or not, we will see in the upcoming preseason.
