PUBG Corp and Bluehole have announced a new update for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds which will contain a new ranking system that should help prevent pub-stomping and a feature that detects your region automatically, locking China out.
Technically, update #22 is not happening yet, as it was just recently announced on Test Servers, and will come to live once the kinks have been dealt with. It brings many bug fixes and quality of life improvements but the ranking system is what takes the cake.
Let's get to the juicy part right off the bat - the ranking system will have a feature that automatically assigns players to servers based on their location, effectively region blocking China. If you're a European player, you will play with other Europeans and the same goes for American players as well as the Chinese.
Ranking system will also be put in place, with eight total ranks - Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Master and Grandmaster. Ranks should also put a stop to top tier players being matched with those who are not up to their skill level, preventing stomp matches with 30 kills in the process. It could also potentially mean the end of stream sniping and players can forget about being randomly matched with Shroud or DrDisRespect.
In order to get on the ladder, players will need to play 10 provisional matches that will presumably work in similar manner as those in League of Legends - higher rank point gain and loss at the start of a season. Ranking points will decide in which division players belong, ranging from 1 point in Bronze to over 2000 in Grandmaster.
Update #22 will introduce the skin trade up system where players will finally be able to get rid of excess items in their inventory by upgrading them to something better. Overall, this update will add the community's most requested features to PUBG but it remains to be seen if it will be enough to spark the player base's interest again, as most of them have abandoned PUBG due to slow and at times non existent support.
