It seems as if public outcry over the number of cheaters in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has finally made the company take notice, so the upcoming update will be looking to address some of these problems. The update is being tweaked on the test servers and should bring a number of improvements on all fronts, from graphics and general performance to the crate box system.

PUBG’s player reporting system has been a mess, prompting developers to add a report button in replays, report pop ups when pressing RMB on the player list and report button on the timeline when observing. PUBG Corp say that "you no longer need to be killed by a suspected cheater for you to be able to use the in-game reporting tool."

Indeed, the amount of cheaters in PUBG and even the company’s milestone of 3 million concurrent players came hand in hand with some dire statistics. Namely, BattlEye reported a staggering figure of 1,500,000 bans as of 28 December 2017. And that’s just the ones they caught. Also, would somebody please stop calling these people hackers - using apps to circumvent systems doesn't make them hackers no more than using a power outlet makes them Tesla.

A new crate system is apparently being tested as well, with two new crates - one of which is free to open, whereas the other requires a key. Test servers will be granted 100,000 BP and 6 Early Bird keys each. Each player buying a crate with BP will get one of four available crates, with a much higher chance of getting the new ones. Note however that crate items are cosmetic in nature and the system is used for general testing - as such, these items will not transfer to live servers.

The company says that they continued to stabilise the performance, being careful to tweak performance without changing game elements. Airdrop jerkiness has apparently been fixed by reducing view distance when in the air. There will also be changes to starting islands, for the same reason. On the gameplay front, more cover has been added around La Bendita on Miramar and squad colours have been tweaked to "better reflect call-out names".

The update is undergoing fine tuning on the test servers and will go live once deemed stable. At the moment the update seems to be PC only, so Xbox users need not fear that any of their 28 frames per second will be affected. For more info on crate item drop rates and other changes, refer to .
