Bluehole's massively popular game has landed in mobile devices as well. PUBG Mobile is said to be a ''faithful recreation'' of the PC and Xbox One version by Tencent Games as it includes voice chat and squad commands just like the original.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will take up to 900MB on both Android and iOS devices. It is available in India, US, Canada and Tencent are gradually releasing it across the rest of the world. The game will be free-to-play and will rely on microtransactions for income but considering that it's a mobile game, this model was to be expected.
Tencent Games have also worked on localising the PUBG release on PC for China, and are now the full developers of the mobile version. PUBG Mobile was first released in Canada on 16 March 2018, following a test phase there. The mobile version was well received in both Canada and China, and it was recently released in the US.
India is also on the list of countries where PUBG Mobile is available, but Europe will have to wait a little longer. PUBG Mobile app made a mention that it's being released gradually based on different time zones in the world. Meanwhile, Fortnite's release on iOS is the charts as the #1 free app in the store even though it's still on an invite-only basis.
Still wondering why Bluehole soiled their collective pants when they heard Epic Games are entering the battle royale arena?
PUBG may have been the game that popularised the battle royale genre on PC and later on Xbox One, but Fortnite beat them to the mobile market. Tencent will have their work cut out for them in order to catch up with Epic Games.
Back on the topic of a ''faithful recreation'' of the PC version, PUBG mobile seems to only need hackers to be completely authentic. Tencent have announced the game will have ''powerful anti-cheating mechanisms'' and if this holds up to be true, the authenticity may be called into question. It's for the best though.
Tencent Games' suggested system requirements are an iPhone 6 or above for iOS and a smartphone with Android version 5.1.1 or above. The game will also require at least 2 GB RAM.
