Project Athia, Square Enix's upcoming title for PlayStation 5 and PC will be an open-world style game in which users can freely move around the game world, the publisher officially confirmed.
Project Athia was one of the most impressive games we got to see a PlayStation 5 event earlier this year. Square Enix's title is built for Sony's upcoming console and PC but unfortunately, we didn't get to see much of the game since its reveal.
One thing that Square Enix have revealed thought is that Project Athia will be an open-world game just like previously speculated. Here's what Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda had to say on the matter:
"The game Project Athia, which we will release for PS5, is an open-world style game in which users can freely move around the game world," Matsuda told Weekly Tokyo Keizai Plus , translated by Gematsu.
Matsuda also commented on the differences between PlayStation 5 and PC version of the game. He said that Project Athia on PS5 is nearly identical to PC version. According to Square Enix President, Sony's next-gen console "dramatically improves video technology" with its implementation of "light-reflecting ray-tracing technology".
Square Enix's plans are to continue developing well-balanced games for smartphones and cloud but the developers "will never stop developing for high-end platforms such as PS5", Matsuda concluded.
Project Athia still does not have a release date. It will launch on PC and PlayStation 5.
