Since Overwatch 2 will overwrite the original Overwatch, many players wondered if their loot would carry over. Now we have official answers.

Blizzard held an Overwatch 2 -themed AMA on Reddit, answering some of the questions that were quite itchy for the community. More than one fan was interested in the economy of the game once the switch to the battle pass system happens and the devs have answered a few of these questions.

First, there is the matter of loot boxes. They are going away when Overwatch 2 launches, so the main question here is what happens to the boxes that are in a player's inventory when the update arrives?

Apparently, the loot they held will be transferred to the player's inventory directly, without the box opening animation. The stuff will just get unlocked, or the Credits will be added to your balance in case you get them or duplicates.

Speaking of which, you might be wondering what will happen with the Credits since OW2 is getting that new Virtual Currency.

Unlike loot boxes, the Credits will actually carry over. However, this new virtual currency will be the main thing used for purchasing things and Credits will not be able to buy some of the offerings.

Blizzard employees did not elaborate on what the Credits will be unable to buy but it likely refers to the battle passes.

Several fans asked if the battle pass will award any Virtual Currency but it looks like the devs dodged the question, hinting that this will not be the case.
