The Reign of Talon is Overwatch’s first complete, year-long narrative arc, which will run from Season 1 through Season 6 (from February 2026 to early 2027). This shift towards a long narrative, alongside the dropping of the “2” from the title, marks a symbolic return to its roots.
The narrative is told through in-game cinematics, as well as comics, such as A New Empire, Vengeance Comes, Vested Interests, and others. Many players, including myself, were always invested in these, and it was a genuinely fun aspect if you are interested in the lore, as the media showed both how the story progressed as well as their favourite heroes in action.
Meet Vendetta: Overwatch's New Main Villain
The narrative of the main story is being told from the villain’s perspective, carrying darker motives which are in contrast to the usual optimistic tone of Overwatch. It is an attempt to have a more cohesive narrative experience, which evolves and progresses with the game, has consequences, rather than just boring updates and cinematics that nobody will care about, or that are tied to certain skin releases.
While Vendetta was added in December 2025, before the narrative shift, her time is now, as she is the main character of the new story. The story kicks off when she takes control of Talon after overthrowing Doomfist and rejecting his secretive approach. Vendetta wants to bring back Talon’s old fame, she wants to act loudly and not from the shadows - her only goal being to take over the world.
La Lupa: The Woman Who Wants to Conquer the World
Vendetta got the nickname La Lupa (The Wolf), as she was fighting her way through the Colosseum. While she does have the usual Talon demeanour, her connections to this shadowy organisation run much deeper than that, and they are much more personal. Her father, Antonio Bartalotti, was an arms dealer and a member of Talon’s inner circle who helped build the organisation from the ground up.
Vendetta: From the Colosseum to Talon's Throne
While she was a child, she was exactly how you would expect a child to be, reckless and wild. But with her father’s guidance, she learned how to be calculated, how to control her wild side and how to turn her enemies’ weaknesses into strength. Before she gathered enough strength and allies to go after Talon, she was a part of the Colosseum, where she went against all kinds of foes, both smaller and larger than her. As her reputation grew, her influence grew as well, and she managed to infiltrate European high society. However, she never forgot her roots, nor her mission.
She believes that the council, with Doomfist at the throne, ruined Talon and brought it to its knees, and that the only person who can restore it to its former glory is her. This wasn’t the first time she tried to take back what was hers. Previously, when Doomfist was captured by Overwatch, she attacked but failed.
Vendetta promised her father she wouldn’t make the same mistakes he did, and that she would grow strong and learn how to punish his enemies, as now they were her enemies. As time went by, she got stronger but also more and more power hungry, determined to get back what’s hers. No more hiding in the shadows, Vendetta came, saw and is now ready to conquer the world.
The Day Everything Changed
Although he was a part of a violent organisation, Antonio Bartalotti didn’t want the same for his daughter; he wanted her to have a different life. But he had many enemies, too many even for a man of his wealth and ties.
After Blackwatch came for him and Reaper took him out (to the shock of the other Blackwatch members, as that was not the plan), it didn’t take long for his enemies to act. Talon soon seized his accounts, his assets, and took over the allies he had. Doomfist took his place on the Talon council, while Vendetta was cast aside.
Vendetta's Revenge: Taking Back What's Hers
Vendetta considers Talon her birthright, while Talon disagrees. They considered her a threat and not welcome among their ranks, but she thinks she earned her right to be there, and anyone who thinks of standing in her way will be eliminated. All the members who had the pleasure of Vendetta’s visit are now dead. It was all her way of sending a message to Doomfist that she is coming.
Overthrowing Doomfist: No More Hiding in the Shadows
During a meeting with the other members of Talon, she confronts Doomfist, who is still the leader and doesn't believe that power is passed down. They fight, Vendetta cuts off his gauntlet and throws him out of the window, and finally takes what is supposed to be hers. The other members of Talon, Moira, Reaper, and Sombra, watch silently.
While Talon was previously working from the shadows, Vendetta has a different approach in mind; her plan is to reject all of the previous methods Talon used and start to act loudly and without restraints. She strikes deals with notorious criminal groups globally, such as the Deadlock Rebels and the Hashimoto Clan, all with the goal to expand Talon’s reach and make the world kneel.
New Heroes, New Alliances: Who's Joining the Fight?
Through this new chapter of Overwatch, 10 new heroes will be added to the roster, with 5 launching on February 10th, while the rest will be released per season from Season 2 to Season 6. Some heroes will align with Talon, others with Overwatch. Domina, Emre, and Mizuki are all Talon aligned, while Anran and everyone’s new favourite, The Jetpack Cat, are siding with Overwatch.
Talon or Overwatch? Season 1's New Roster Explained
As for the rest of the heroes, some of them are canonical Talon, while others are part of Overwatch. Here is a list of their canonical alignment:
Talon: Doomfist, Moira, Reaper, Widowmaker, Sombra, Sigma, Mauga, Vendetta
Overwatch: Winston, Tracer, Mercy, Genji, Reinhardt, Brigitte, Mei, Echo, Sojourn, Cassidy, Ana, Pharah, Lucio, Zarya, Baptiste (formerly Talon)
Besides these, there are also heroes who are former Overwatch, some of them currently inactive or simply independent, such as Soldier: 76, Hanzo, Kiriko, Venture, Orisa, and others.
The Conquest Event: Pick Your Side
As you log in to Overwatch, you'll soon notice The Conquest Event, as it is an important part of the narrative, which allows players to pick sides: conquering the world as Talon or defending it as Overwatch. The Conquest meta will span through five weeks, with players completing missions tied to the lore and, by doing that, contributing to the faction they chose.
Talon or Overwatch: The Battle for the World Begins
The narrative will unfold through hero trailers, comics, and other media, which will all be accessible to the players through the dedicated narrative viewer in the game. The story will change and evolve in real time - players will watch it all through updated maps, new art, and more. The developers are encouraging the players to focus on the story, as this chapter will progress the game’s narrative in a meaningful way, and all in front of the players' eyes.
Reign of Talon represents a bold new direction for Overwatch, one that has promised consequences, important choices, character development, as well as a living world that will respond to the conflict going on between the two factions. With Vendetta on one side, leading a new, aggressive, and unrestrained Talon, and Winston on the other, rallying Overwatch’s members in response, the stage is set for Overwatch’s most ambitious narrative yet.
One question hangs in the air: will Talon conquer the world, or will Overwatch rise to meet this new threat?
