New World, an upcoming MMO by Amazon Game Studios, is drawing closer to launch so the dev went ahead and explained the in-game progression and crafting systems.
Speaking to Gamespot, New World's development team revealed some cornerstone features of Amazon's hot new MMO, specifically those related to progression and crafting.
So, New World features five intertwining progression systems, and each action in the world of Aeternum comes with own rewards, starting with the most basic type of progression - levelling up your attributes. These are Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Focus and Constitution, and are pretty self-explanatory, especially to seasoned RPG players.
The second New World progression system is tied to weaponry - the more you use a weapon, the better you get. Weapon Mastery lets you sink points into specific weapon perks, which should be aplenty once the game launches.
Trade Skill progression is New World's third progression system, and it's all about your favourite activities. In short, the more blacksmithing you do, the better you get.
New World's fourth system is Territory Standing, which rewards playing for simply playing in a territory. The bonuses range from XP and reduced fees to housing.
Last but not least is the Faction, which is quite important in New World and grants you access to really cool faction gear you wouldn't be able to get otherwise.
As for crafting, Amazon Game Studios made sure to implement a deep system that starts you off light, i.e. you'll only be able to craft basic stuff in the beginning. As you progress through the game and boost your Trade Skill and so on, you'll get the ability to add specific perks to your weaponry.
More importantly, though, crafting advanced weaponry will require either being a master gatherer or knowing one because esoteric weaponry requires esoteric materials.
