Ubisoft's rumoured Splinter Cell reboot could feature gameplay elements from IO Interactive's Hitman series.
Yesterday, we learned that Ubisoft might be planning to bring back their iconic stealth franchise Splinter Cell. The report from VGC stated that the French publisher have finally greenlit a brand new Splinter Cell project, after more than eight years since the last game in the series was released.
Details about the game are pretty scarce at the moment but reliable industry insider Jeff Grubb has shared a couple of interesting pieces of information regarding the Splinter Cell project. Grubb reveals that Ubisoft have been testing a Splinter Cell prototype over the summer.
One of the prototypes had Hitman-like gameplay elements and while it does not necessarily mean that this is the version of the game that Ubisoft have greenlit, it's interesting that the publisher are considering such a direction.
Though, it is certainly not surprising that Ubisoft are looking to copy some elements since Hitman has been nothing but major success for IO Interactive.
We think that the Splinter Cell franchise could work within such a genre but until we get to see some of the gameplay, which won't be coming anytime soon, this is all just guesswork and speculation. It's entirely possible that the next Splinter Cell ends up being something completely different.
Perhaps even a cinematic, narrative-driven stealth game? Who knows.
