Players fix Monster Hunter: World connection error before Capcom

Describing Capcom's current predicament is quite a peculiar matter as the PC version of Monster Hunter: World is simultaneously doing great and horrible, depending on whether you're talking about copies sold or actual in-game performance.

So, Monster Hunter: World is finally available on PC, although most reviewers agree that we not only expected - we deserved more. I'm not talking about the actual gaming component either because when it comes to gameplay - it's the same old Monster Hunter: World.

On the technical side of things however, Capcom's PC iteration still leaves a lot to be desired, and that's putting it mildly. Graphics are nowhere near the standard you'd expect on PC and there's also the tiny problem of the game crashing every time a butterfly flaps its wings anywhere on the planet it seems.

Luckily for Capcom, the game's fans are as persistent as the game-crashing error code 83-MW1 and they've already found a workaround, even though it doesn't seem to work in 100 per cent of the cases. However, many users have reported drastically less crashes too, so it's well worth a shot.

So, Monster Hunter: World players need to go to Steam settings > In Game and disable Steam overlay and Big Picture. The next step is adding '-nofriendsui -udp' or '-nofriendsui -tcp' to MH:W's Launch Option, which can be found in MH:W Properties screen in the Steam launcher. Apparently, this will instruct steam to use UDP or TCP instead of WebSocket and will revert to the old Friends UI.

In terms of sales - Monster Hunter: World is making a killing regardless of the platform you choose to look at. Having launched on consoles in January 2018, the game hit 7.5 sold copies by March, which was updated to 8.3 million just ahead of the game's arrival on Steam. With Steam figures estimated at slightly upwards of 2 million, the total number of sold copies stands at circa 10.3 million.

Ironically enough, the PC version was supposed to launch together with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, but Capcom chose to delay it so as to properly polish the game and give players a proper Monster Hunter: World experience. Now however, we're all wondering what the company was doing in the meantime because MH:W's console performance seems to be kicking Master Race's behind.
