The first full season of Marvel Rivals started with a blast, announcing a lot of new content that includes two of its most iconic characters: Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman.
This pattern of new heroes into each new season is one thing players can look forward to, according to Guangyun Chen, game director at NetEase Games.
According to Chen in an interview with Metro, the idea is that two new Marvel characters will be released at the start of each three-month season, which themselves will be split into two halves, again with a new hero introduced in each.
"Every season will introduce new stories, maps, and heroes," Chen said. "We divide each season into two halves, so that one hero would come in the middle of seasons and another one would be released at the end, and so on. That's how we keep the experience fresh and retain excitement within the community."
If this idea holds, players could see up to eight new characters added to the game by year's end. With The Human Torch and The Thing also rumoured to join the roster soon, Season 1 might even bring that total to ten.
Growing success
Marvel Rivals is currently available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC and has grown incredibly since it launched in December. The hero shooter recently surpassed 644,000 concurrent players on Steam, further solidifying its popularity.
Routine updates, as well as new heroes and fresh season content, will make Marvel Rivals fully capable to keep up to date and remain competitive for such a long time.
