Riot Games completed the group draw for League of Legends World Championship 2020 which resulted in FlyQuest and Rogue drawing extremely short straws.

League of Legends World Championship groups have been drawn, with only Play-In teams left to fill the remaining spots.

Group A

  1. G2 Esports
  2. Suning
  3. Machi Esports
  4. Play-In Qualifier

G2 got a good draw this year, possibly the best they could hope for. LPL's third seed seems to be the main competition here but the PCS champions, Machi Esports, shouldn't be overlooked just like that. Then again, it is much better than getting creme of the crop from LCK and LPL.

Group B

  1. Damwon Gaming
  2. JD Gaming
  3. Rogue
  4. Play-In Qualifier

Speaking of creme of the crop, LCK champions and LPL runner-up team are meeting in the first group of death. Rogue will have their work cut out for them and if Team Liquid ends up here, it will be quite a party.

Group C

  1. TSM
  2. Fnatic
  3. Gen. G
  4. Play-In Qualifier

This is another strong group where we get a feeling it will be a close call in who gets to advance to the knockout stage. Should LGD Gaming pop into this group, it will be a rather frantic race for the first two spots.

Group D

  1. Top Esports
  2. DragonX
  3. FlyQuest
  4. Play-In Qualifier

Group D is poised to be the death sentence for teams that aren't hailing from China or Korea. Top Esports simply became unstoppable after acquiring JackeyLove and the only team that could properly stand up to them in LPL was JDG. DragonX is LCK's runner up as they were only swept by Damwon, whose form makes them the primary contenders for the title, next to TES.

FlyQuest will be fighting an uphill battle and if MAD Lions join from the Play-In stage, this group will be an absolute joy for neutral observers and a possible depression inducer for FLY and MAD fans.

Then again, it wouldn't be the first time if some upsets were to happen and we see some of the strongest teams leave the competition after group stage.
