An interesting article on the official League of Legends website has revealed some changes for the upcoming 2022 preseason. There will be some interesting adjustments to the game's items.
Preseason in League of Legends has always been the time when Riot Games decided to make some larger adjustments to the game. Those changes often include changes to the game's core features like maps, items or the ranked system. The previous preseason has brought the famous item overhaul which had a huge impact on the game. This was one of the largest changes the game has ever seen since items are one of the things that define the game.
In their most recent Preseason Overview article , Riot have revealed that there will be some additional changes to the game's items. They are looking to target some specific roles which are frequently struggling to find the right item in the right situation. The first change they've mentioned is implementing more Mythic item options for the support role. It seems like most supports rush either Locket of the Iron Solari or Shurelya's Battlesong, which is the exact problem the item overhaul was supposed to solve.
Another change will target the Legendary items for three roles - assassins, tanks and mages. By introducing interesting Mythic items like Everfrost, they've resolved the starting item issue for AP champions who would almost always start their build with Luden's Echo. However, the subsequent Legendary item build path has remained fairly the same.
Their goal is to introduce items that are "perfect" for some champions in certain situations rather than an item being just "okay". The AD carry position can be used as an example of how to successfully improve a role with item changes.
These changes should still be taken with a grain of salt since the Preseason is a couple of months away and it shouldn't come as a surprise if Riot decides to take another path.
