Schalke 04 are having financial issues due to relegation from the Bundesliga and one of the consequences was that the organisation had to sell its LEC spot. Previous reports alleged that the team would earn around €30 million from the sale and there were some rumours about the next license holder.
The rumours mentioned it would be Team BDS who would acquire the license eventually but a recent tweet from Manchester City Esports and Schalke 04's interaction with it hinted the owner would end up being someone else completely.
Namely, Man City Esports will have a big announcement on June 24, 2021, at 6:00 PM BST / 5:00 PM CEST / 8:00 AM PDT and they posted this one Twitter. It could be completely unrelated but what hinted at S04's LEC spot acquisition was the fact that Tim Reichert retweeted it.
For those not in the loop, Rechert is a former S04 player and the current head of their esports, meaning he could have been signal-boosting the sale announcement. Furthermore, he quickly removed the retweet but it wasn't before the internet caught wind of the action which is now available publicly.
Once again, these are hints and in no way official announcements yet but Man City's big news is just a few hours away now which is when we will know for sure.
