Play-In stage is the first part of the League of Legends World Championships and the groups drawn on September 22, 2021, may have ruined some teams' dreams at the very beginning.
League of Legends World Championship 2021 is kicking off on October 5 when Play-In matches start happening. The group draw was a bit unlucky for some teams as they now have to content with both Korean and Chinese teams.
Group A
- Hanwha Life Esports
- LNG Esports
- Infinity Esports
- PEACE
- RED Canids
This was a rather unfortunate draw for the latter three teams on the list. First, every mid lane here will have to face off against Chovy. Second, both Chinese and Korean fourth seeds are here. Unless a major upset happens, this group might end up being a resident sleeper. Viziscsacsi has joined PEACE as a replacement for their top laners who didn't manage to get a visa.
Group B
- Beyond Gaming
- Cloud 9
- Detonation FocusMe
- Galatasaray Esports
- Unicorns of Love
This group is much more even and the fight for the top will be much less certain. Unicorns of Love might end up playing against Csacsi, who earned his early stripes with the team, provided they manage to get out of the group stage.
The format
First place in both groups gets automatically qualified for the main event. The third and fourth seed from each group will proceed to the Play-In qualifier semifinals. The winner of the match proceeds into the finals where they will face off against the second seed from the other group. Winning the finals qualifies the team to the main event.
