The theory behind server transfer abuse is simple. Riot Games supports multiple regions with League of Legends servers all over the world, with some of them having far fewer players than others, or simply less of a competitive culture.
That means that, objectively, it is easier to limb to a certain rank on one server than it is on others. And, while the usual banter between NA and EUW is not actually that prominent, there is a large difference between the Russian and EUW servers, for example.
In patch 12.13, Riot Games are putting a stop to this behavior by implementing a simple fix:
"Adding Regional Transfer Rank Preservation. If you transfer your account out of a region and back to that region within two weeks, your account’s ranked state upon returning to your original region will be restored to what it was when you left. This is intended to curb some region-transfer rank abuse we’ve been seeing and also means you won’t have to re-do your ranked climb if you take your League account with you on a quick vacation."
This means that the days when players would leave a server for two weeks, spam out games on a server that is easier to climb on, and then return with an inflated rank are over.
Now, if only they could find a way to resolve the issue of inflated egos, as well.
