League of Legends esports fans will not get to enjoy an MSI this year but several local events have replaced the international one and the details for the European part are now available.
MSI 2020 was cancelled due to Coronavirus issues and having a bunch of people from all over the world fly into the same location is a great recipe for giving Covid-19 a great hotspot.
Instead of that, Riot Games announced a streamathon extravaganza which will help fight Covid-19. The first part will start on Friday, May 29 for Oceania, China and Korea while Europe, Russia & CIS, Brazil, Latin America and Japan will kick off one day later. All the regions will have their finals on Sunday and you can check the full schedule on the official website.
Riot revealed the details for the European portion of the event on May 20, giving the fans a glimpse of what they can expect to see in the two days of the competition.
Branded EU Face-Off, the teams will not be the professional ones we are used to seeing in the LEC but based on countries instead. A total of six teams will participate, with only one not being tied to a single country:
- O'Gaming representing France
- LVP for Spain
- Freaks 4U Gaming representing Germany
- PG Esports for Italy
- Frenzy for Poland
- Riot Games LEC team for EU
Unfortunately, we don't know each team's lineups yet but they are sure to follow soon.
