Forza Motorsport is only a couple of months away from its official release and today, developer Turn 10 Studios talked more about their upcoming racing simulation, revealing details about the AI improvements, new physics model, tire compounds and wheel support.
Creative Director Chris Esaki was a guest at the latest episode of the Forza Monthly show where we also got to see new gameplay that compared the AI in 2017's Forza Motorsport 7 to the AI in the new game.
As shown in the gameplay demo, the new AI can be over 13 seconds faster on Forza's fictional track Maple Valley. According to Esaki, this is possible thanks to machine learning, which drives each track 26,000 times to achieve the fastest line through every layout.
Obviously, the AI won't be perfect and will make mistakes, just like real-world drivers. The goal was to make the AI as believable as possible with more natural mistakes like real humans do, such as breaking too late and going wide or even off track.
Forza Motorsport will launch with eight difficulty options with the eight considered absolutely unbeatable, challenging even the best drivers out there.
Forza Motorsport driving physics
Turn 10 also revealed additional details on physics and how tires will work this time around. Tires in Forza Motorsport will feature eight points of contact with the track surface, which allows the tires to find grip on any type of uneven surface.
The devs say this will result in better drivability overall and more realistic behaviour on surfaces like curbs. Esaki explained that Forza Motorsport 7 had only a single point of tire contact which led to a lot of inconsistencies and unrealistic driving and loss of traction over bumps and curbs.
Forza Motorsport tire compunds
As for tire compounds, you'll get to choose from Street, Performance, Race and Drag tires along with the Wet tire compound. Race tires will also have Soft, Medium and Hard compounds. As you probably know, Soft is the fastest and gives you the most grip but wears out fast while Hard lasts the longest but has the least grip of the three compounds.
You can find a detailed breakdown of these new Forza Motorsport features in the official blog post.
Forza Motorsport is coming on October 10, 2023, to Xbox Series X|S consoles, PC via the Microsoft Store and Steam, and Xbox Game Pass for console, PC and Cloud.
