Forza Horizon 4 has launched and the reviews are in - can Playground Games' latest take on the franchise top their earlier Aussie flavoured racer? The answer is yes it can and then some. Heck, UK doesn't look this pretty in real life.
As simple as the end result may seem, review roundups can be quite energy-taxing. You're trying to find a way to cram in a million voices and varying opinions into a single piece but Playground Games seems to have made it infinitely easier with Forza Horizon 4.
Why? Well, for starters, pretty much everyone agrees that the game's graphics is simply outstanding. Lighting, shadows, specular highlights, HDR, tessellation, and all that in glorious 4K/60 FPS make Forza Horizon 4 a real visual treat for racing lovers and enthusiasts.
Gamespot awarded it with a 9, praising the game's choice of location and progression systems. They stressed that Forza Horizon 4 feels like the most complete package in the franchise, with "diverse range of activities stuffed into every corner" of the game.
IGN agrees, claiming that Playground Games not only upped the ante, "it's blown the bloody doors off". Beautiful surroundings, distinct maps and a "constantly rewarding and self renewing racing experience" mean that fan favourite Forza Horizon 3 will have to take the back seat.
PCGamesN, on the other hand, argues that once graphics are cast aside, Aussie-flavoured Horizon 3 still "felt fresh and vibrant in a way Horizon 4 can’t quite match." Awarding Forza Horizon 4 with a solid eight is a testament to what they consider the most polished instalment up to date, even if it didn't feel "as progressive or impactful" as the 3.
Metro praised Playground for the UK that's chock full of secrets, seasons, progression and vehicles, awarding with a 9. They did point out however that the "map is smaller than Forza Horizon 3 and the game takes a long time to open up all its features to you."
Microsoft
PCWorld complimented Forza Horizon 4's developer for ensuring the that the game's structure is as loose as possible, lending itself well to player freedom and choices. Granted, they conceded that some players may find this to be a drawback, but the game's winter would be enough to change anyone's mind.
