Fortnite‘s Winterfest event has returned, but not without some annoyance for players. Epic Games has made it so that Winterfest‘s daily rewards no longer stack, so players can only open one gift per day. Winterfest started on December 18 and it is offering a total of 16 free rewards, with two of those being exclusive skins.
However, an early bug brought this issue to light, and Epic has since confirmed that players will have to be active for most of the event to unlock everything. Traveling players or those with time off from games over the holidays could end up missing out altogether.
Winterfest rewards no longer stack
For the first time in its history, Fortnite’s Winterfest cabin now caps gift openings at one per day. Miss a day and there’s no make-up system in place to allow you to play catch-up.
This system differs from Winterfest events in previous years, in which daily rewards stacked and could be claimed all at once if you logged in late.As a result of this change, if you miss too many days of Winterfest 2020 you will miss out on rewards permanently.
How many days you can miss
There are 14 daily rewards tied to cabin gift openings. That means:
- You can miss fewer than seven days across the three-week event
- Missing more than that will lock you out of some rewards
The two exclusive skins are tied to progress rather than individual gifts:
- Glacial Dummy Outfit unlocks after opening 7 days’ worth of presents
- Cheeks Outfit unlocks after opening 13 days’ worth of presents
Community reaction so far
Reaction to the change from the community has been swift on social media. Many players have pointed out that December is one of the busiest times of the year and logging in every day isn’t possible or realistic for everyone.
While opening a gift and claiming a reward is only a one-minute task, the added pressure of daily logins during a month when many players will be away from home or focusing on family and travel isn’t a popular change.
