The Fortnite team recently published a post on the game's state of development and one feature in particular rubbed the players the wrong way - changes to the matchmaking system. The Fortnite team responded, saying they'll sift through the feedback and think long and hard before taking any steps.

The information , with a single sentence saying "We are working on changes to matchmaking that are aimed at creating matches with a more balanced distribution of skill." Harmless? Well not really, seeing as how the slightest of changes here can introduce major shifts in the general feel of the game.

At the moment, Fortnite is most certainly not your hard core, no frills competitive game. The devs made sure it leans more towards the casual, fun aspect of gaming, with graphics to match. That's not to say it isn't competitive, because nothing could be farther from the truth. Where Fortnite truly shines is the vibe of not taking itself seriously, which makes it a delightful, fun experience. Well, sometimes.

Ironically enough, while the lesser skilled players would seemingly "benefit" from being pooled with "their own", the same can't be said for more experienced players. Matching skill levels means tiresome rounds that require serious concentration and those don't really exude fun. Naturally, this isn't what Fortnite is all about - it's what esports is about, so in this respect, it does indeed make sense to refrain from fixing what isn't broken in the first place.

The Fortnite team heard the pleas and replied but it’s uncertain whether they'll abandon the idea altogether or just decrease the magnitude of changes. After all, this is just, like, our opinion, man.
