Microsoft has released its February Xbox Update. This month’s update includes several optimizations that improve performance, accessibility and cloud gaming.
Streaming quality is receiving a boost for console players. Players will notice crisper visuals as part of the Xbox PC app update, as higher bitrate streaming is rolling out.
Handheld players will see quality-of-life improvements to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate gameplay on the ROG Xbox Ally. Microsoft also introduced controller navigation sounds, Postgame Recaps and more. They’ve refreshed the cloud gaming website as well.
1440p Streaming Now Available on Xbox Consoles
The headline feature in this update is the availability of up to 1440p resolution and higher bitrate streaming on Xbox Cloud Gaming. This means sharper graphics and smoother gameplay for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.
Members will be able to stream games in up to 1440p on:
- Xbox Series X|S
- Xbox One X
- Xbox One S
Console streaming had been lacking some of the enhancements available to PC users (via supported browsers) and certain smart TV devices. With Xbox officially dropping the ball out of beta, it’s making steady improvements.
Xbox PC App and ROG Xbox Ally Updates
Using the Xbox app, it is now quicker and easier to format removable storage on your ROG Xbox Ally. Meanwhile, the ROG Xbox Ally has received several notable updates:
- Easier removable storage formatting directly through the Xbox app
- Advanced Shader Delivery indicators to show when shaders are pre-compiled
- Additional performance and usability improvements based on player feedback
Some of these updates will help reduce stutter seen on first launch of supported games.
Postgame Recaps and New Cloud Gaming Web Preview
Xbox Insiders playing on PC can now access Postgame Recaps in the Xbox PC app. After gameplay, players can view achievements unlocked, captures taken as well as what events will be happening in-game.
An updated Xbox Cloud Gaming website also launched into Public Preview. The new web browser version includes a new navigation and visual adjustments. There will be more adjustments made as they continue testing.
February’s update continues Microsoft’s commitment to improving cloud performance and bringing Xbox console, PC and handheld users together.
