Following the tense survival Stranded Deep, it's time for more casual gaming at Epic Games, as the store's freebie for this week is Solitairica, a rogue-like take on the popular card game.
"Solitairica takes RPG combat and challenging roguelike progression to a fresh new place—the world of solitaire! Using a variety of magical items and powerful spells, battle your way through a horde of ever-changing enemies and defeat the horrible Emperor Stuck", the description reads.
And we must admit that Solitairica is a surprisingly fun shaking up of the classic formula, and a challenging one at that. Your job is to start from the number on the card you've drawn, and keep clicking successive or preceding numbers on the cards in front of you - that part is fairly simple.
Solitairica's suits work like mana, each of which grants you points that fill up a meter on some type of upgradeable spell. The spells in question can be bought and rearranged as you go through the game, so you can mix and match spells for specific enemies.
The game's rogue-like structure means the replayability is pretty good but don't expect to be coddled.
We've already started looking at the leaked list instead of official channels for Epic Games Store's next game, but they've given a strong hint by saying the game is "pretty hot".
They're talking about Torchlight 2, of course, Runic's iconic RPG that's being featured as Epic freebie for the second time, if we recall correctly. And we do.
Nevertheless, if you missed out the first time, Torchlight 2 is a great RPG that'll give you hours of fun, and then some. Fill the rest out with Solitairica or something.
