Devil May Cry 5 review embargo is up, and gaming critics are sharing their thoughts on Capcom's slasher. Judging by the reviews, Capcom have created another gem with spectacular combat that may be the best the franchise has offered so far.
Capcom's Devil May Cry 5 is officially releasing today - 07 March 2019, and just like with every other release, various gaming outlets are sharing their thoughts on the latest instalment in the beloved hack and slash franchise.
Judging by the reviews on Metacritic, Capcom have made another great Devil May Cry game, which may also be the best the franchise has offered so far. The majority of reviews are agreeing that Devil May Cry 5's combat is spectacular and that the game plays and looks wonderfully.
The current Metascore for the PC version is based on 14 reviews and it stands at 90 out of 100 while the PS4 version is a bit lower with 86 out of 100. Xbox One is in the middle with 88 out of 100.
According to the critics, one of the biggest differences, when compared to previous instalments in the series, is the focus on the characters and story which got widely expanded in Devil May Cry 5.
At the time of writing, the highest score is coming from The Telegraph's Olivia White, who gave the game five stars. She describes Devil May Cry 5 as "stylish, cool, supremely fun, fluid and rewarding".
White found reasons for this in the game's combat and characters, especially V, who is described as an "absolutely fascinating character to play as." Other features that impressed The Telegraph's writer are the move sets and combat styles that come with every new weapon.
The lowest score comes from Variety's Mark Epstein who wasn't impressed with Devil May Cry 5. His score is 60 out of 100 and he lists "controls that feel long in the tooth" and characters that are "vivid hybrid of anime tropes and b-movie bravado" as main reasons for the mediocre score.
