Hunt: Showdown is under development by Crytek. The game is now available in Steam's Early Access. The devs hope Hunt: Showdown will have a full launch in 12 months. Hunt: Showdown will get more content while in Early Access.

Crytek's latest looter shooter has had a closed alpha test at the end of January, and now it's available in Steam's Early Access. Because paying money to test out an unfinished game trumps being randomly selected for a beta any day of the week.

Hunt: Showdown is a competitive first-person PvP bounty hunting game with PvE elements, brought to you by the makers of Crysis. The game is available in Early Access in exchange for £25.99. The price is going to increase for Showdown's full launch.

Its dev team expects that Hunt: Showdown will remain in Early Access for about 12 months, but this will come down to the scope of changes they end up having to implement. As it stands right now, the game sends you to the Louisiana bayou where you hunt monsters and try to stay alive.

The monsters you hunt grant bounties and players outside of your team may try to steal those bounties by killing you dead. There are currently two boss targets, four AI enemy types, and random hordes of animals.

You'll be able to pick between 33 pieces of weapons and equipment, and have access to trait and progression systems. The current amount of gear, monsters, hunters and game modes will be expanded upon during the game's stint in Early Access.

"Early Access is a big milestone for the team, and we are all excited to finally be releasing Hunt: Showdown out into the wild," creative director Magnus Larbrant says. "With Hunt, we wanted to make the game that we, as gamers, have always wanted to play ourselves: tense, dark, addictive, terrifying - a real adrenaline-pumping experience. We have the foundations laid out, and now with the support and input of the community during Early Access, we can polish that experience together."
