Children of Morta release date announcement came with the above-embedded trailer that offers glimpses of gameplay for the roguelike title.
The story has it that a certain Corruption is spreading over the world and has morphed the peaceful area of Mount Morta into a violent place infested with monsters. Developer and publisher hinted at players having to sacrifice everything in order to save loved ones, which probably means the in-game family.
Players will get to lead the Bergsons who have been the protectors of Mount Morta for generations but haven't faced a threat like this yet. Each character has certain flaws and virtues which will apparently make players experience what it means to be in a family of heroes. Such a concept is not entirely strange to 11 bit studios since they are the ones behind This War of Mine where players control characters with various traits while trying to survive a besieged city.
The Steam offers a few more gifs that provide another preview of combat in Children of Morta, hinting it may be more fast-paced and visually satisfying than the trailer actually lets on.
Children of Morta will set players back $21.99 / €21.99 / £16.64 and system requirements don't appear to be too high which is normal for a pixel art game. A 2.0 GHz dual core CPU and a seven-year-old GPU with 2GB RAM will be enough to run the story-driven RPG.

In case 11 bit studios sounds familiar but not because of This War of Mine, it's because of Frostpunk, another gorgeous and acclaimed game that has players surviving an unfriendly environment.
