EA have cancelled Respawn Entertainment's unannounced Mandalorian game as part of their most recent restructuring and lay-offs, it's been reported.

The Mandalorian game from Respawn Entertainment is dead, according to reliable Andy Robinson. The game was yet to be officially announced by EA but thanks to a recent report from Insider Gaming, we learned that this Star Wars bounty hunter game was early in development at Apex Legends studio.

Respawn developer Justin Đoàn, who got to see the game several times in internal meetings, shared his thoughts on the project on social media X, calling the cancellation a real tragedy. Đoàn said that everything the dev team showed in meetings has been nothing but absolutely incredible.

"The Star Wars FPS cancellation hurts. As a colleague, as a Star Wars fan, and as a gamer, everything that team has shown off in internal meetings has been absolutely *incredible* and the fact that none of it will see the light of day is a tragedy."

Additionally, he revealed that group calls would buzz with excitement when it was time for The Mandalorian team to show their baby. The game featured some very innovative groundbreaking mechanics, according to Respawn developer.

"Every time it was their turn to present in the studio-wide meeting you could see the zoom chat going nuts. Some actually innovative groundbreaking stuff was being made. I was looking forward to gifting all of my friends this game. This fu***** sucks."

The Mandalorian game was reportedly a first-person shooter

Respawn's The Mandalorian was supposed to be a first-person shooter in which players would take control of a Mandalorian bounty hunter during the time when the Galactic Empire was a dominant force (no pun intended) across the galaxy.

The players would get to capture bounties dead or alive for cash rewards and presumably spend that cash on new weapons, gadgets like wrist rockets, grapple hooks and more.

Insider Gaming also reported that the Mandalorian would use a jetpack for smooth but very fast-paced movement. The game reportedly featured a linear level design instead of an open world, taking place on various planets in the Star Wars universe.

The reason for the cancellation is not totally clear but EA have confirmed that they are walking away from licensed deals and will focus on their own IP in the future. This is due to the fact that Disney, Marvel and similar licence owners take a staggering amount of money in royalties, as revealed in recent Insomniac leaks.

Some games like Motive Studios' Iron Man and the third Star Wars Jedi title are still in the works.
