Both Project Helix and PS6 are still on track for Holiday 2027, reliable insider claims
Both Microsoft's Project Helix and Sony's PlayStation 6 are reportedly still targeting a Holiday 2027 launch window, despite earlier concerns over supply chain issues

Key Points from the Article

  • Both Xbox Project Helix and PS6 reportedly remain on track for Holiday 2027 release despite RAM shortage concerns
  • Microsoft has revealed Project Helix technical specs, including custom AMD SoC, path tracing capability, and Neural Rendering, with alpha dev kits shipping in 2027
  • Sony has not publicly disclosed any PS6 details or made official announcements about their next console
  • Many analysts had expected at least a one-year delay to 2028 due to hardware supply issues
Both Microsoft's Project Helix and Sony's PlayStation 6 are reportedly still targeting a Holiday 2027 launch window, despite earlier concerns over supply chain issues

Reliable hardware insider KeplerL2 has stated that both Microsoft's Project Helix and Sony's PlayStation 6 are still on track for a Holiday 2027 release, pushing back against concerns that supply chain issues could delay the next console generation.

The next console generation has had question marks hanging over it in recent months, with rumours circulating that RAM shortages could force delays to both Microsoft and Sony's upcoming hardware.

However, according to KeplerL2, a well-regarded insider with a strong track record on hardware information, those concerns may be overblown. When asked where the launch window was leaning, the response was unambiguous: "Both Xbox Project Helix and PS6 are still on track for Holiday 2027."

If true, this is obviously significant, since many analysts expected that we would see at least a one-year delay, pushing consoles closer into 2028. Consoles have had a steady seven-year window between releases for a while now, but many would argue that the devs are still not fully utilising PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and that a delay wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

It's worth noting that these are just rumours at the moment, and plans change all the time, so it's entirely possible that we do see delays after all.

What we know about Project Helix

Microsoft have already begun laying the groundwork publicly. Earlier today at GDC 2026, Xbox VP of Next Generation Jason Ronald revealed the first technical details on Project Helix, confirming a custom AMD SoC, next-generation DirectX support, AMD FSR Diamond with ML Multi Frame Generation, full path tracing capability, and Neural Rendering. Crucially, Ronald also confirmed that alpha development kits will begin shipping to studios in 2027, which implicitly points to a consumer launch later that same year, consistent with KeplerL2's claim.

What we know about PS6

Very little, officially. Sony have remained tight-lipped about their next console, with no public announcements or technical disclosures to speak of. The PS6 remains something of a ghost compared to Microsoft's increasingly vocal Project Helix rollout, though if KeplerL2's information holds, both platforms are moving in parallel toward the same holiday window.

A simultaneous Holiday 2027 launch for both next-gen consoles would certainly set up one of the most competitive hardware battles in years, especially if Microsoft are going with a much more powerful (and more expensive) hardware compared to PS6.

Time will tell. Until then, we have plenty to play.
