Gearbox Software and 2K Games have a highly-anticipated title on the horizon, and players are finally getting the information they need before launch. PlayStation database listings have given players a definite pre-load date and file size for Borderlands 4 on PS5.
Fans can now begin to clear up space in their storage before Borderlands 4‘s release date. Borderlands 4 is releasing in less than a month, and having the ability to pre-load the title means players who bought a digital version of the game can begin playing as soon as pre-loading is unlocked.
Players who bought a physical version will have to wait for an update, likely on day one.
Borderlands 4 File Size on PS5
Borderlands 4 is 28.168 GB on PS5 at launch (01.002.001). This is a much lighter footprint than Borderlands 3, which is 52.927 GB on PS5. Gearbox has significantly reduced the required storage space for Borderlands 4, making the game much more manageable for those with limited storage on their consoles.
Pre-load begins on 09/10/2025, only 2 days before the worldwide release. Players who purchased digital pre-orders of Borderlands 4 will receive the latest update on the day of release while other patches are expected to arrive in the days leading up to release.
Launch Date and Platforms
Borderlands 4 releases September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version following almost a month later on October 3, 2025.
The game is said to not have loading screens between regions, but will instead have a persistent world.The review embargo is anticipated to lift a few days before the game’s release, with no confirmed time.
It’s likely the embargo will drop at midnight PT, which is typical for review embargos.With pre-load details confirmed and storage requirements nearly cut in half from the last game, Borderlands 4 is anticipated to be more seamless, both in technical and gameplay terms.
