Overwatch is Blizzard's newest cash cow but it isn't without merits. The team introduced a new game mode for Arcade titled "Competitive 6v6 Lockout Elimination", which will pit players against each other in rounds. With each round's end, the used heroes will be locked out for the winning team, forcing players to switch to different ones.
This mode isn't anything new, seeing as the Arcade currently has a 3v3 and a 6v6 Lockout Elimination mode which is basically the same thing. What sets the new addition apart is the competitive aspect. Seeing as it is a temporary game mode, the competitive season will last from today until 07 May 2018.

The idea behind this mode is to ensure players have a wide range of heroes to choose from and get good at. Recently, players have complained about one-tricking in Overwatch, with several incidents happening for and such as ourselves. Whether the bans or suspensions were warranted is still in debate.
Available maps include: Black Forest, Ecopoint: Antarctica, Castillo, Necropolis as well as a new addition ported over from Capture the Flag mode, Ayutthaya. The re-designed Control sub-maps are also featured in the competitive mode, just like in the standard Lockout Elimination versions.

As with any previous Arcade competitive mode or the game's main competitive mode, players will have to complete ten seeding matches that will place them in leagues according to their performance.
Overwatch was fairly unaffected by the backlash stemming from the loot box controversy caused by other triple A video games in the past year. Perhaps it is due to the game's enthusiastic population that does not mind such a system in games, as long as it sticks to cosmetics only.
