How to find a way through the room full of cans
First of all, once you reach this room, it will be over the catwalks above, so the first thing to do will be to make a way for Ilya. Fortunately, this part is way easier than making your own way; just wait for him to reach the point where he stops and pull the lever on your left. Once he is over, he will make his own way to where he must go.
Once he is over, drop down the set of cans located at the end of the left catwalk (the only one accessible at the point) and enter the large room below. On the opposite side of the room, you will notice a large machine designed to carry those cans. Approach the machine and take control of it. Go to the side of the room directly below Ilya and take the closest can from the set of two. Release it in front of the can you took it off, but do not leave the machine yet.
Look up and notice that you cannot cross to the highest level because one can is missing. Simply park the machine to fill in the gap as shown in the image above, and you will be all set. Exit the machine and climb the cans to reach Ilya's position and reunite with him.
