The new DLC for Horizon: Forbidden West, Burning Shores, brings us one new mount called Waterwing, which, in addition to flying, can also deeply and swiftly dive. Here is how to obtain it.
One of Guerrilla Games ' promises for the recently released DLC for Horizon: Forbidden West , Burning Shores, was that we would be able to tame a new flying machine called Waterwing. In addition to its regular flying ability, Waterwing will also have the ability to deep dive, enabling Aloy to reach places she couldn't before.
If you've just begun playing Burning Shores and have seen all the trailers introducing the new mount, you're probably already looking for a way to tame Waterwing so you can ride it around the ruins of Los Angeles.
Well, let us just tell you straight away: Don't do that because unlocking the Waterwing override is a completely story-related task. Here is how and when you will be able to unlock it.
How to unlock the override for Waterwing
To be able to ride this fearsome machine, you will need to unlock its override first. We know what you are thinking: All overrides in Horizon games are unlocked inside cauldrons, and since Burning Shores DLC features one cauldron, the override must be there, right? Well, you are wrong.
To unlock this override, you must first gather some ingredients. After you start the main quest "For His Amusement," Aloy will contact Beta, and she will tell her what to gather to build the override. Once you have everything you need, build the override and continue towards the Waterwing site, where you will meet Seyka.
Notice one machine sitting with its back turned on you. Sneak upon it and use the newly installed override on your spear to tame it and make it your new best riding buddy.
After overriding Waterwing, you will be able to fly it anywhere, even in the base game. Keep in mind, however, that if you override another flying machine, Waterwing will no longer be available until you return to Burning Shores and override it again. Waterwing is basically the same machine as Sunwing; the only difference is its diving ability.
