Baldur's Gate 3: Mirror of Loss explained
Baldur's Gate 3 - Shar and Shadowheart
Baldur's Gate 3 - Shar and Shadowheart

One of the permanent buff moments in Baldur's Gate 3 happens at Shar's own doorstep and here is how to get out with the best results.

Going through Shadowheart's quest bears many prizes of all kinds of qualities, with each of them being pretty potent in their own right.

Upon finishing the quest lines, provided you got her to change her haircut to lighter colours, Shadowheart will want to find her parents, who are being kept in the House of Grief in Baldur's Gate.

Going through the quest and winning the final confrontation will award a Legendary shield but that is arguably not the best reward you can reap from the cloister.

After you're done fighting Viconia, you will be able to go to a secret room where Shadowheart's parents are kept. Regardless of how you resolve that portion of the quest, there is one part behind them that doesn't get a proper highlight, although it should.

Mirror of Loss is located directly behind the parents and you can use any character to interact with it, although I would always suggest using the main character to do so. Make sure you bring multiple ability check buffs, like Guidance and Bend Luck as you will need to pass a 25 DC Religion check to get the benefits of the object. Save scumming is also recommended.

Baldur's Gate 3 - To open the door after the fight with Viconia, place gems or gold on the altar. The plate will drop further the better the offering is. All the offerings will be gone after the door opens.

Once you pass the check, you will need to choose which memory you want sacrificed, each of them imposing a -2 penalty to a stat. Alternatively, you can give up the forbidden knowledge if you obtained it by reading the cursed book Necromancy of Thay in Blighted Village during the first Act.

I highly recommend you choose any of the abilities, it doesn't matter which. If you succeeded the Religion check, you will then be able to choose a +2 bonus to an ability of your choosing. This buff will be permanent and can bring you over 20 points in a single stat.

As for the -2 debuff from the sacrificed memory, you can simply use Remove Curse on that particular character and the debuff will be erased.
