Obsidian Entertainment have been try to temper the hype surrounding The Outer Worlds as they don't want the players to expect too much from the game. Just when the hype went to normal levels, Amazon probably leaked the game's release date.
The Outer Worlds' release date may turn out to be 06 August 2019 as Amazon posted a listing on the game but quickly deleted it as the word spread. Normally, retailers' leaks tend to be mere placeholders but this time around it may have some merit.
A Steam update was logged by SteamDB, where Valve apparently added the same release date to their store page. This release date was also removed shortly after, but it was there long enough for fans to pick up on it.
Another hint that the leak may turn out to be true is that 06 August 2019 falls on a Tuesday, which is a common day to release new video games.
On top of the two leaks, folks from Obsidian have been revealing a lot of new information to the press lately, hinting that a release date announcement could be close. In fact, the official release date reveal may be less than a month away as Game Developers Conference is coming up on 18 March 2019, which could prove to be the prime time to announce the big news.
Despite The Outer Worlds being announced at the end of 2018, the game was in development since at least May 2016 and the creators of the game have repeatedly stated that the scale will not be gigantic. Leonard Boyarsky and Tim Cain have confirmed that The Outer Worlds will be smaller in size than Fallout New Vegas.
Smaller scale and the recent surge of information are not unusual as it was announced The Outer Worlds would come at some point in 2019 from the get-go and having a release in August doesn't seem to be far-fetched. Neither Obsidian nor Private Division confirmed nor denied the leaked release date so far.
In short, there are many pointers that state it will release on 06 August 2019 and pretty much none that say otherwise.
